It seems that hardest part of having a profitable niche business for most people is finding a great niche in which to make money. While all the other work, be it keyword research, search engine optimization or promotion is very important, the key ingredient to making good money resides in the niche you choose.
This article will describe the 5 methods that are proven to work, and will in turn make it very easy to decide on a good niche topic.
1. Promoting a physical product as an affiliate is one of the easiest ways to generate income for your site without having an actual store yourself. Focusing on a single expensive product and building a website around it has been proven to be a profitable strategy for anyone who tries it.
2. Jumping on trends is an excellent way to target a niche. The mistake however that people make is to simply look at Google trends and are usually faced with celebrity news and topics which don’t necessarily indicate a good niche. The secret to jumping on trends is actually to use Google insights for search on topics that are always around, but to look at the breakout terms section. This lets the market tell you what is big on their minds instead of you guessing.
3. Forum participation is probably one of the best ways to discover a micro niche which usually turns out as a real money maker. While searching through a forum on a certain topic, identify the threads that have a lot of views and responses. Those are the ones that are of most interest to your target audience and will always reveal the biggest goals and desires of your market. This takes out the guess work on your part and tells you what product to promote on a silver platter, without having to spend endless hours guessing.
4. Use well know sites that only sell products. Bestbuy, Amazon and Cooking.com are excellent examples of such sites. Remember that sites like these target only folks that have a credit card in hand with the intent to buy. Sort through and filter out the products that are best sellers and you have a sure fire way of knowing what product to promote and build a niche site about.
5. Browsing through offline magazines is one of my favorite ways to identify good niche markets. You not only identify a good market but by taking note of the ads running you also know with certainty what products are being sold to the audience.
